Since January 1987, the office has been connected with the in-house computer systems and has a compiled index available. At the same time a new filming system went into effect, we film all the documents in our office to ensure security and a quicker return of the original instruments to the parties who presented them. Most recently we've added a new accounting program to accommodate the work and make the office operations more efficient.
The eight employees in the office of Recorder of Deeds are responsible personnel with educated, experienced knowledge and are available to assist the public in whatever questions they may have, other than that of a legal nature or the actual making of deeds.
Our records are dated back to the early 1800s and are open to the public for research. We have all the original document books in our office for public use but also have everything of record on film which is stored elsewhere to provide security in the event of any disaster that the county records will be preserved.

Since our move into the new Administration Center in May 2003,
the Recorders Office is now able to display for research the many historical items that were stored due to lack of space in the courthouse.
In the near future, the office will have an array of historical maps, etc. hung for public view in the Archive Center adjacent to the office. |
