Snow Removal Information
Jefferson County maintains about 650 miles of County roads for snow removal. The State Highway Department takes care of the major roads such as I-55 or Route 30. Many local roads are taken care of by the subdivision associations.

It takes about twelve hours for the County Highway Division to clear all the roads of snow after it stops snowing.

SAFETY REMINDERS
  • REMEMBER, Snow removal equipment has the "RIGHT OF WAY"
  • Stay at least 100' behind all snow removal equipment.
  • NO PARKING is allowed on any County Road or Right Of Way.
  • It is prohibited for private snow-removal operators to push snow onto any County maintained road, this includes homeowners cleaning off driveways.

SNOW REMOVAL POLICY

MAIN ARTERIAL ROADS will be plowed first, with the secondary and local roads to follow thereafter. (EXAMPLE; Lemay Ferry, Flucom Road, New Sugar Creek are just a few roadways that are main arterials).

The County is PROHIBITED from towing privately owned vehicles that are stranded ON or OFF of County Roads.

JEFFERSON COUNTY will not be responsible for replacing snow-damaged mailboxes that were not installed according to the guidelines of the U.S. POSTAL SERVICES or LOCAL ORDINANCE.
