| Welcome to the Department of Land Use, Development, and Code Enforcement |
|
| Effective January 4th, 1999, the County Commission created the Department of Land Use, Development, and Code Enforcement. The decision to place the divisions of Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement in a common department under a single director was a major step in improving accountability and upgrading the delivery of services to the citizens of Jefferson County. By adopting a structure that encourages coordination among these divisions, County Government is better prepared to implement programs and policies that foster the orderly development of our county. |

| Mission |
|
It is the missoin of this Department to provide the citizens of Jefferson County with the means for future growth, educational opportunities, economic vitality, safe and efficient regional mobility, and sound environmental compatibility, while enhancing and preserving the "quality of life" Jefferson County citizens expect.
To suceed as a Department, each Division must pursue individual areas of responsibility that support the achievement of a common mission. Accordingly, the Planning Division ensures that land use decisions in Jefferson County are based on sound growth management policies as outlined in the Comprehensive Master Plan and implemented by the effective application of the County's Zoning Order and Subdivision regulations. The Building Division ensures that construction projects conform to the building codes, the flood plain ordinances and the on-site sewage disposal code. The Code Enforcement Division seeks to improve our neighborhoods by implementing the solid waste code and promoting recycling in Jefferson County. While these individual efforts are noteworthy, they are enhanced by coordination among the divisions and cooperation with the other agencies in Jefferson County Government so that our community may realize its full potential. |
