How do I become a notary public?

(State Statute Chapter 486 RSMO.)
Contact the County Clerk and Election Authority's Office and request a Notary Book which will have the application inside. Complete the application and send to the Secretary of States Office. A fee of $25 must accompany your application. Prior to submitting an application, each new applicant must complete training as prescribed by the Secretary of State. Current notaries must complete the mandatory training at the time of reapplication for a new commission prior to their expiration date. Once approved, your commission is sent to the County Clerk and Election Authority's Office. A letter is sent to you from the Secretary of States Office notifying you that your commission has been sent to the Clerk's Office. Before coming to the Clerk's Office to be sworn in, you must obtain a $10,000.00 Notary Bond which you are required by law to acquire. There is also a $3.00 recording fee. Then, all you have to do is come to the Clerk's Office to be sworn in. Your commission lasts for a four-year term. You may complete an application and training on-line at www.sos.mo.gov
