Application to request

election information

Jefferson County uses the optical scan voting system

If you have never used this form of voting before, feel free to ask for a demonstration in the Voter Registration Office or at the polling place before you vote. Using the felt tip marker you will need to fill in the circle next to the name of the candidate you wish to vote for or the YES or NO answer if it is a proposition.

Read the sample ballot that is published in the newspaper before you go to vote. This way you will not be surprised by anything you see on the ballot when you enter the voting booth.

Party Preference

Missouri does not register voters by political party so you will not be asked your party affiliation when you register, but you are required by Missouri Law to choose only one party ballot when you vote at each Primary Election. You must request a party ballot from the election judges when you vote at a Primary Election, but you do not have to choose the same party ballot at subsequent Primaries.

Filing for County Offices

The date to file for County Offices begins at 8:00 a.m. on the last Tuesday in February immediately preceding the primary election and ends at 5:00 p.m. on the last Tuesday in March immediately preceding the primary election.

County Offices filing fees are $50.00, payable to the Political Party filing under.
