Things are cooling down fast. As we move into the fall & winter months, take a few moments to make sure you are prepared to deal with the usual hazards that come with the season. A few of the more common ones are extreme cold, winter storms, flooding and structural fires. Some great planning resources and information on hazards of all types can be found at http://www.ready.gov/.
One of the best things you can do is simply to stay informed of the severe weather potential. The OEM highly recommends everyone keep at least one NOAA All-Hazards Weather Radio with Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) capability in your home and workplace. These radios can be programmed to automatically deliver severe weather watches and warnings affecting the places you care about.
For more information about All-Hazards Radios, check out this website:http://www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/nwrrcvr.htm
CodeRED Reverse 911 System
Another great warning tool available in Jefferson County is the CodeRED notification system. This is run through Jefferson County 911 and can be used to send significant emergency information to your phone, including severe weather notifications. It’s also completely free of charge! You must sign up for this service through Jefferson County 911 either on their website at http://www.jeffco911.org/ or by calling the dispatch center at 636-797-9797.
