Did you know?  The early settlers to Jefferson County were of French heritage

from St. Louis and Ste. Genevieve.  Many family names in Festus and southern Jefferson

County were also of French heritage. After the Civil War, German and Bohemian names

began to flood into the northern part of Jefferson County where rich farmlands were developed.
